The 10 Best Dry Shampoos

This wiki has been updated 25 times since it was first published in December of 2017. Shampooing your hair too often may strip it of its natural oils and make it fragile. If you prefer to let your tresses rest every few days or so, but you don't want to go out with a greasy looking head, try one of these dry shampoos. We gathered up some of the best formulas for keeping your locks looking good, and they're handy for getting you through days when you don't have the time to groom. When users buy our independently chosen editorial choices, we may earn commissions to help fund the Wiki.

1. Moroccanoil For Light Tones

2. Amika Perk Up

3. Drybar Detox Clear

Editor's Notes

June 12, 2020:

Dry shampoos can be incredibly useful on those days when you need to look your best but just don't have the time; however, there's some evidence to suggest that using them regularly, in place of real shampooing, can lead to hair loss over time. For that reason, no matter which formula you choose, you may want to save this hair care product for occasional, rather than daily, use.

With that said, we still think Moroccanoil For Light Tones and Living Proof PhD offer excellent results — as long as you have the budget for their somewhat hefty price tag. They boast a scent that most find pleasing, unlike some less expensive versions, such as Suave Professionals. We kept Amika Perk Up, too, and added Drybar Detox Clear. The latter is lightweight, and there's a matching dry conditioner. This means you won't have to skip moisturizing your locks, which is particularly helpful if you use styling tools that can be rough on your hair, such as a hair straightener.

For something on the more wallet-friendly side, there's Dove Refresh, Tigi Bed Head Oh Bee Hive! Matte, and Batiste Cherry. These offer plenty of texture, but some find that the Dove version can be a little sticky. We've also added one choice for protective styles, Taliah Waajid Refresh & So Clean. It's a dry gel shampoo with bamboo, avocado, and peppermint that was designed to supply the hair follicle with nutrients. The peppermint makes it smell wonderful, too.
