The 10 Best Door Sweeps
This wiki has been updated 17 times since it was first published in May of 2020. Door sweeps are designed to seal the gap between the bottom of the door and the threshold, and offer several benefits. Not only can they save money on heating and cooling bills, but they also keep out moisture, dust, and insects. There are many different kinds available, and choosing the most suitable one will depend on the material and thickness of the door, and the type of floor it's used on. Editor's Notes
August 28, 2020:
Weatherstripping is the process of sealing doors and windows from the elements and preventing rain and cold air from entering properties. A good-quality door sweep can be attached to a door and is positioned as close to the floor as possible, thus forming a barrier where otherwise there is a gap. There are several types to choose from, the sturdiest being made from aluminum with a rubber, vinyl, or brush seal that hangs below the door and makes contact with the threshold. While not the prettiest of home additions, they do come in a range of styles and finishes and can be matched to your door hardware or be painted to match your decor.
A draft stopper is a popular way to seal a door against the weather, however, these need to be removed and replaced every time the door is used. The Holikme Twin, the Evelots Draft Stopper, and the DeeToo Man Insulator expand on that design by allowing them to be permanently attached to the door, although they may be a little bulky for many. The M-D Building Products 68247, the Frost King Premium, and the Pemko Brush are all aluminum models that are hardwearing and are fastened onto the inside of a door. The latter uses a brush, making it a good choice for hardwood floors, as it won't scratch or mark, and is also adjustable for gaps of up to two inches. The GroTheory Draft Stopper has a similar design to the aluminum models, but is made from silicone, making it suitable for use on a carpeted floor. The KS Hardware Double Bubble and the Frost King Slide-On both have a U-shaped design that clips on to the bottom of a door, and are effective as they have a wider surface area for multiple sweeps, however, they will only fit certain sized doors, and are only useful for small gaps.
