This wiki has been updated 28 times since it was first published in December of 2016. When the temperature drops below freezing, adding one of these furnaces or heaters to a dog's living space will help to keep him warm all winter long. Our selection includes standalone options that conveniently attach to the walls of a dog house, bed-style heaters, and entire shelters that are designed to keep your furry friend protected and comfortable both indoors and out. When users buy our independently chosen editorial recommendations, we may earn commissions to help fund the Wiki.

Editor's Notes

August 06, 2020:

For this update we continued to evaluate the dog house heaters in terms of their safety as well as their comfort. Since the majority of dog houses (even really nice ones) are not completely weather-proof, and more subject to the elements, we have ensured that all recommended units that plug into an outlet are rated safe for outdoor usage. For this reason we removed the Riogoo Electric as its the cord has not be rated for outdoors.

We replaced it with the K&H Extra-Wide. We considered not placing it on the list because the shelter itself can leak if it gets entirely soaked, but it makes a great place for smaller dogs to nap if the dog's outdoor space is located in a garage or covered porch area.

In addition, we had to remove the ClimateRight Mini due to availability concerns. We chose to include the Amazon Basics Warming Bed instead. The gives pet owners in mild climates a non-electric option as it functions by reflecting the animals' heat back to them, like a Mylar blanket.

October 11, 2018:

Removed Sharon's Cozy Pet Warmer and the Akoma classic due to availability concerns. Added Kane Pet Pad because of thermostat controls and ease of cleaning. Also added ClimateRight heater due to its multifunctional operation. Also added K&H Thermo-Pet due to its compact size and portability.

4. K&H Deluxe

5. Amazon Basics Warming Bed

6. ASL Deluxe Dog Palace

7. K&H Extra-Wide

8. Farm Innovators Pet Mat
