The 10 Best Desk Mounted Power Strips
This wiki has been updated 16 times since it was first published in September of 2020. Bending over and reaching under your desk to plug in things like phone chargers or computer accessories can become a tiresome task if done often enough. Desk mounted power strips are a relatively affordable solution to this problem that allow you to minimize clutter and maximize flexibility when it comes to your desktop workstation, and most take very little effort to install. One of the primary differences to consider between desk mounted power strips is how difficult and destructive their installation processes are. For instance, many options such as the Jgstkcity Mountable, Bestten 1U PDU, and Trond Power Strip use just a couple screws to attach to your desk. This makes for a relatively simple setup and allows for them to be installed in a wide variety of locations, however the downside is that they will obviously leave holes and possible splitting or paint damage behind if they are ever removed. If you're using a desk provided by your workplace,or simply a higher-end model you'd rather not damage, this might not be acceptable.
The Tripp Lite TLP606 and CCCEI Desktop Power Center use a clamping design that requires no tools to install and offers a reduced risk of damage, though they can certainly scuff or scratch your tabletop if over tightened. The APC PE6U21 uses a spring-loaded clamp in lieu of one that is tightened by hand, and while this means it's not quite as versatile or stable it will generally provide an even lower risk of damage as long as a given desk is within the compatible size range. Plus, it takes mere seconds to put in place.
It may seem like a less laborious installation process would always be preferable, but in fact there are a few benefits to models that require tools like drills or a hole saw. Choices like the Jackyled 2 in 1 Station and the Jgstkcity Power Grommet for example certainly take a longer time to setup, however it's hard to deny that they're much more secure and generally even lower profile than selections that attach with clamps or adhesive pads. With this sort of selection your desk will still fit against any walls you had it up against previously, and usable space on your tabletop is maximized. Not to mention, a strip mounted this way is much less likely to accidentally fall off or disconnect in the event that your desk is accidentally bumped.
