Editor's Notes

May 27, 2021:

Most of our selections from our last round of updates made it through this round without any trouble, but we did decide to phase out the Home Styles Naples and Milliard Sofa 3-in-1 due to their questionable availability.

The Merax Padded Back caught our eye with its unusual stitching, which resembles the sort of pattern you’d see on a typical brick wall. We liked the look, and thought that it might make a stylish selection for a modern sunroom or a fun choice for a child’s bedroom, but we ranked it quite low on our list, being especially vigilant of its short warranty and fiberboard construction since we don’t presently have access to a lot of user feedback for this option. During our next round of updates, when we’re likely to have more data to work with, we’ll consider whether to adjust this model’s placement on our list.

We also added the Bedz King All in One, after it got our attention with its attractive weathered finish and Brazilian-pine construction. Like our new addition from Merax, this option can accommodate two twin-size mattresses. But unlike the Merax, it also has three drawers for storage, which might make it a fitting choice for a spare room, as it can provide your medium- to long-term guests with somewhere to unpack their things during their stay.

For more solutions to help accommodate overnight visitors, you might also be interested in our lists of futons, trundle beds, folding beds, Murphy beds and cots.

Daybeds offer the versatility of a futon, but often provide more minimal and graceful designs. Whereas futons can be bulky, daybeds fit into corners and small spaces much more easily. It's important to note that many of our selections do not come with mattresses, so consider checking out our top ten mattresses or down pillows articles to complete your bed. I have also included beds like the Jaxx Alon Daybed, which does not require additional purchases.

Daybeds come in many forms, and the one you choose will likely be based upon how you seek to use it. The Milliard Sofa 3-in-1 is great for somewhere like a college dorm, as it has the most versatility of all listed, and in its couch position takes up the least space. For those college students or apartment dwellers who want to spend less, but still want to have friends over, the Zinus Twin Trundle is a wonderful option. It comes equipped with a pull-out on casters that eases the transformation from couch to bed.

If you are looking for something more stylish, then the Jennifer Taylor Home Lucy or the Homelegance Adra PU Upholstered Daybed are some options worth looking into. Both are high-end designs, while still offering the ability to become guests beds.

Always be fully prepared and take the proper precautions when assembling your daybed. Some come in very heavy boxes and do not arrive with all of the tools required.

Special Honors

Vondom This company has more than two dozen daybeds to choose from, all of which have a modern aesthetic, sometimes to the point of having a futuristic feel. Lots are equipped with canopies too, so you'll always have the option to shade yourself from the sun if you set one up outside. vondom.com

Hayneedle You'll find almost 100 twin-size daybeds to browse through on this company's website, and some look pretty nice, but what really got our attention was its smaller selection of a dozen queen-size options, which are great if you like to stretch out while you snooze. hayneedle.com
