Editor's Notes

August 03, 2020:

For this update we needed to remove some discontinued items, like the Tiny Love Follow Me Fred and the Fisher-Price Zoom and Crawl Monster.

The Skip Hop Follow-Me Bee remains a top selection because of its three stages of play, so it will be interesting to children for longer than a month or two. The smiling ball can be removed from the base and be used as a stationary toy before babies can even scoot.

We added the Bright Starts Rock & Glow as another option that moves on its own, like the Follow-Me Bee, plus it also changes directions easily to help keep babies interested. One if its best features is that you can choose hardwood or carpet mode, making this a very versatile option.

In addition to choices that move on their own and encourage babies to crawl further distances, we've also included plenty of choices that requires some intervention to start the moving. This teaches concepts such as cause and effect, plus a parent can assist the youngest scooters who don't yet understand how it works.

Whether it's the completely non-electric Melissa & Doug Pull-Back Vehicle Set, or the newer Fisher-Price Laugh & Learn that offers some fun lights and sounds, babies will need to crawl after this type of toy, once launched, plus they'll be developing a host of other fine and gross motor skills.

March 12, 2019:

With a multitude of toys available for this developmental stage, we prioritized options that gave babies the opportunity to make things happen on their own. The Skip Hop Follow-Me Bee and the Tiny Love Follow Me Fred took the top spots because they each have multiple modes that allow for baby's quickly changing skills. We removed the Little Tikes L'il Ocean Explorers due to concerns that babies of this age will try and pull up on it and it tips over easily.

4. Sassy Fascination

5. VTech Wiggle and Crawl Ball

6. Bright Starts Roll and Glow Monkey

7. Melissa & Doug Pull-Back Vehicle Set

8. Leap Frog Count & Crawl Kitty

9. Fisher-Price Franky Beats Ball

10. Disney Baby Crawling Pal
