The 10 Best Cordless Pole Saws

This wiki has been updated 20 times since it was first published in October of 2018. When left to their own devices, healthy trees and towering bushes can quickly get out-of-control and need to be trimmed and pruned regularly to keep everything neat and tidy. Instead of using a ladder, which can be dangerous, these cordless pole saws use an extendable arm with a chainsaw attachment, so you can remove unwanted limbs and branches from the safety of the ground. Editor's Notes

October 30, 2020:

The purpose of a pole saw is to enable trimming, pruning, and cutting through tree branches and limbs, without the necessity of a stool or a ladder. They enable to user to stand safely on the ground by using an extending pole, with a chainsaw attachment, to reach the necessary height and angle to safely cut whichever parts of the tree that are to be removed. Since the items in this ranking are cordless, this provides greater maneuverability and allows for maintenance work to be carried out in places far away from a power supply.

In this update, we have removed some items due to issues with reliability and difficulties with obtaining spare parts, and have replaced others with newer more powerful models. The Dewalt Max XR has a reach of over 15 feet making it a good choice for those looking for a tool to cut limbs from very tall trees. It has a useful guard behind the blade that provides stability while cutting and helps to prevent bucking, it is also collapsible in the same way as the Hooyman 655236, making it portable and easy to store. However, the Dewalt doesn't come with a carrying bag, whereas the Hooyman does. The Sun Joe iON8PS2 has been upgraded to the Sun Joe iON100V, which boasts a 650-watt motor powered by a 100-volt lithium-ion battery, giving it up to 90 minutes of continuous runtime as opposed to only 30 minutes with the previous model.

Initially, the Honda UMC435LAAT was the only petrol-powered saw on the list, but now we have added another, the Greenyard 5-In-1. This is a multi-tooled option that comes with a range of attachments, turning it into a powerful hedge trimmer, brush cutter of grass strimmer. The good thing is that all of these attachments are included in the kit, whereas any extra tools need to be purchased separately for the Honda. The Greenworks G-Max is also a versatile option that includes a hedge trimmer attachment, and being battery powered makes it somewhat less wieldy than the petrol models, and therefore more suitable for occasional home use.

October 25, 2018:

Noted the ability of the Hooyman 655236 to collapse into a compact size, making it the best option for combining portability with power. Investigated reports of minor oil leaking in a couple items, but the impact was not significant enough to keep them off the list.

Special Honors

Husqvarna Known for high-end landscaping and forestry power tools, this company currently produces the longest reaching pole saw on the market, with an extension bar of over 13 feet, giving a working reach of around 17 feet. An adjustable harness helps to distribute the weight and reduce stress on the back and shoulders. husqvarna.com
