This wiki has been updated 19 times since it was first published in January of 2019. We can't all be hibachi chefs, impressing our guests with flaming onion volcanoes while expertly flipping and catching utensils, but if you want an easy way to add a bit of flair to your next dinner party, pick up one of these cooking stone sets. Once properly heated, they can sear thin pieces of meat and vegetables in a matter of seconds, and you can also freeze them for cold dishes and desserts. When users buy our independently chosen editorial picks, we may earn commissions to help fund the Wiki.

Editor's Notes

February 19, 2021:

As noted on our previous editor's note, the stones in each of these sets function quite similarly. They generally require the same amount of time to heat up, and likewise hold their heat for roughly the same amount of time. This means choosing the best one for your needs really comes down to a consideration of size and features, price, and the various accessories included in each set.

Those who are expecting long dinner parties, should look to one that either comes with extra stones or a way to heat them while they are in use. Three models stand out in this regard. The Artestia Deluxe AR-88021 comes with two stones, despite still being quite affordable, so you can swap one out for the other as it cools. The Artestia AR-83004 includes two rechauds that you place beneath the stone while it is on the table to keep it hot, however you will need to buy your own chaffing gel fuel. Perhaps the most convenient, and definitely the most versatile, is the NutriChef Raclette PKGRST54. This model has an electric heater, both a flat stone and metal grill plate, and a couple of other cooking vessels, so you can prepare an entire meal on it.

If you are looking for something a bit more basic, and simply want a platter to serve meat on, the Black Rock Steak is the best option. Its small size means you'll have room left on the table for side dishes, however it is a bit pricy for something without any accessories.

While there isn't much difference in the stones themselves besides their size, the platters and accompanying accessories make each of these sets distinct. Unlike most others, the Artestia Deluxe has a ceramic platter and comes with two stones, each of which has a groove running around the edge to help drain away excess grease. The Zelancio Premium and Fecihor Table Top are great for cooking a single serving at a time, and each comes with a serving plate and three cups for dipping sauces. However, if you're not interested in the accessories and just want to maximize your cooking space, go with the NutriChef Grill Slab, Black Rock Grill Sharing Platter, or Good Cooking Hibachi.

Special Honors

SteakStones SS003R The SteakStones SS003R sits on a raised bamboo platter that gives it a slightly more elegant look than many others. This can also make it easier for some to reach if it is placed in the center of a table for sharing, and considering its size, it should be. You can buy it in sets with matching plates if you choose. steakstones.com
