The 10 Best Cat Collars

video play icon

This wiki has been updated 17 times since it was first published in May of 2018. Just because you may not ever hook your cat up to a leash, doesn't mean he or she can't benefit from wearing a collar. The options on this list will add a bit of decoration to cats, while simultaneously letting you keep them safe, as some have space for ID tags, reflective materials, and bells to help you track them down. We've included both traditional buckle models and breakaway options. When users buy our independently chosen editorial selections, we may earn commissions to help fund the Wiki.

Editor's Notes

May 14, 2020:

During this round of updates, we removed the LupinePet Designer and Expawlorer Velvet Bowtie due to availability issues, and also decided on eliminating the KoolTail Safety and FunPet Bell in order to make room for some high-end additions. Our new inclusions this time around are the Bseen Glowing – an LED model with a 12-hour battery life, the Rabbitgoo Harness – which comes with a 59-inch nylon leash, and the Talgory Personalized – a bow-tie option that comes with a laser-engraved name tag, which we thought would make a suitable replacement Expawlorer collar we removed.

A few things to think about for this category:

Fit and Sizing: Needless to say, no collar’s going to be any good to your cat if it doesn’t stay securely around their neck. With that in mind, use sizing guides provided by companies to ensure that the collar you’re ordering is going to fit your pet.

Many options are offered in multiple sizes, including the Bseen Glowing that’s available in four sizes from extra-small to large. The Rabbitgoo Harness is available in two sizes, and has four adjustable straps, ensuring that you can achieve an excellent fit for your pet, with just a little bit of configuration.

Visibility: If you often have trouble finding your cat in the backyard after dusk, or you have the type of feline that likes to sneak off for adventures, and you’d like to make it as easy as possible for drivers to see them at night, consider a collar that’s highly visible.

While the rhinestone baubles attached to the BingPet Bling Paw or BingPet Charm and Bells might glimmer a bit in the light, they ultimately won’t do a lot to help keep your pet visible at night. A more effective option to consider would be a selection with reflective strips like the Rabbitgoo Harness or Tcboying Ideal. Or, better still, look into an LED model like the Bseen Glowing.

Another means of making your kitty easier to track down is a collar that’s equipped with a bell, as is the case with the Coastal Pet, BingPet Bling Paw and GoTags ID.

Customization: On top of enabling you to leash your pet, whilst keeping them fashionable, another great benefit of of a collar is the ability to attach a nametag, so strangers can help your cat find their way home, if ever they lose their way. With that in mind, you might want to consider a customizable option. While the GoTags ID comes with an option for custom embroidery, the Talgory Personalized features a stainless-steel plate that can be engraved.

While you're shopping in this category, if you're a fan of models like the Rabbitgoo Harness, note that we maintain a separate set of rankings for cat harnesses, as well as another page that keeps track of the best flea collars for cats.
