The 10 Best Cast Protectors

This wiki has been updated 18 times since it was first published in December of 2017. Anyone who's broken a bone knows how inconvenient it can be to perform everyday tasks during recovery. Cast covers make things a bit easier, keeping water out and allowing you to take showers, head out in a downpour, and maybe even go swimming. But make sure you follow the directions very carefully, as a mistake can cause a leak, which could potentially require returning to the doctor. When users buy our independently chosen editorial picks, we may earn commissions to help fund the Wiki.

Editor's Notes

October 17, 2019:

Removed the Duro-Med Leg, which had some issues with the seam that caused leaking, and replaced it with the more reliable TKWC Inc Short Leg. Removed the Vive Arm Cover due to availability concerns. Added the Firstar Knee to provide an option for those recovering from surgeries like knee replacement, the Bloccs Child, which comes in a variety of sizes specifically made to fit kids from age 1 to 14, and the Mighty-X Cover, a more lightweight option that still effectively keeps water out.

While these products are mainly used to keep casts dry, they're also good for those with stitches, bandages, or IV & PICC lines. Some are just meant to be used in the shower, but others are designed to stand up to bathing and swimming. However, even when using one of these heavy-duty options, it's still best to limit exposure to water as much as possible, as fully submerging the limb creates a greater risk of leaking. If you're ever unsure about an activity, make sure you consult your doctor.

If you have a latex allergy, pay close attention to the descriptions, as several options use latex to create their waterproof seal. This is why we made sure to include latex-free options like the Limbo M80 & TKWC Inc Short Leg on the list.

4. DryPro Half Leg

5. Limbo M80

6. Curad Protector

7. Bloccs Child

8. Firstar Knee

9. TKWC Inc Short Leg

10. Seal Tight Sport
