The 10 Best Busy Ball Poppers
This wiki has been updated 30 times since it was first published in July of 2015. Once babies become mobile, it can be difficult to keep them entertained. A busy ball popper can hold a child's attention, thanks to bright colors and lots of movement, and encourages tots to chase balls, helping to develop motor skills, hand:eye coordination, and cognitive development. We've included a wide variety of options to suit children of various ages and parental preferences. When users buy our independently chosen editorial recommendations, we may earn commissions to help fund the Wiki.
Editor's Notes
June 25, 2020:
For this update we needed to remove discontinued items My Little Pony Pinkie Pie and Leap Frog Peak-A-Shoe. We added the Vtech Pop and Surprise Center as a top choice because there are so many ways to manipulate the balls. There's no continuous popping action, but kids can choose how often they pop the balls off the see saw and onto the slides.
We also considered the Vtech Push and Pop, but didn't include it because of multiple reports of babies getting their hands stuck inside where the balls pop out.
So instead we added the nostalgic Fisher-Price Corn Popper. It doesn't take any batteries, and this simple popping action has been encouraging toddlers to take more steps for decades.
We chose the Playskool Chase n Go as the top selection because it gives parents choices about where the balls go and thus how much or little their child will be moving about the room. If they want to encourage them to stay put a few minutes, they can choose the continuous mode which keeps balls cycling through the unit, or parents who want to motivate a baby to develop crawling skills can choose to have this unit shoot balls around the room.
