Editor's Notes

February 22, 2019:

While starting up a boat engine is definitely important, I wanted to make sure this list captured plenty of deep cycle options as well, considering that most watercraft are equipped with all kinds of electrical equipment requiring steady energy flows to keep them running. For that reason, I tried to focus on including durable, spill-free options with high charging cycles and an ability to withstand extreme environments, too. I included the Battle Born 12-Volt because it can last for up to 5,000 charge cycles before requiring replacement, while offering a 100-amp continuous output. The Renogy AGM has a low self-discharge rate, which is helpful when having to store it for long periods of time. Also added the Odyssey Thunder Marine due to its use of virgin lead material for maximizing surface area and reserve power. I also thought the Optima BlueTop was a versatile option, thanks to its support for multiple mounting positions as well as the use of spiral-wound cell technology to minimize vibrations. Also included the DieHard Advanced Gold for its durable construction and electrolyte suspension system for protecting the internal components. Added the Amstron GC2 for the ability to withstand freezing temperatures and for its low gas emissions. Finally, included the Renogy Lithium-Iron Phosphate for its intelligent battery management protection system.
