The 10 Best Bluetooth Speakers For Audiophiles
This wiki has been updated 19 times since it was first published in January of 2019. While we can't tell you too much about the future, a prediction we can confidently make is there will be fewer wires than today. With the development of Bluetooth, throngs of audiophiles are hesitantly considering the switch, slowly learning that if you find a high-quality unit, the loss of an audio jack doesn't have to equate with a loss of integrity. Editor's Notes
December 28, 2020:
For this latest update, we focused on speakers in the desktop to bookshelf size range, as current trends in high-end wireless audio seem to favor more compact models, and for good reason. Most living spaces don't require floor-standing towers (with the exception of some home audio setups and larger living spaces), and a good pair of high-output Bluetooth speakers are more than sufficient to satisfy most listeners' demands.
To this end, the Audio Pro Addon T20 made way for the pint-sized KEF LSX, which are ideal for use with computers as well as with mobile devices in small- to medium-sized living spaces. We then added the curiously-titled Klipsch The Sixes in place of the Dali Katch, as these monitor speakers, although expensive, are high-quality enough for use in pro-audio environments, as well as for casual use at home. Lastly, we updated the Airpulse A300 to the Airpulse A300 Pro, which, while also being prohibitively expensive for most people, really do tip the scales in terms of pure sonic excellence, build quality, and features.
February 02, 2019:
Bluetooth technology is rapidly improving, and as time goes on, it allows more and more audio information to be transmitted from source to receiver. As a result, sound quality is approaching that of traditional wired systems. Therefore, while the phrase "bluetooth speakers for audiophiles" may sound like an oxymoron, we are fast approaching the promised land of lossless wireless listening. Despite the cantankerous naysayers' reluctance in admitting it, companies like Audioengine are making incredible Bluetooth products, like the HD6, HD3, and A5+. If you've got the money, Edifier's S2000 Pro and Airpulse's A300 are the obvious picks. As for those seeking a portable unit, the Dali Katch is one of the first that seems to have the whole package, including sound clarity, durability, and battery life.
