Editor's Notes

February 27, 2021:

I haven’t changed any items here in our selection this time around. Obviously, digital BP monitors are common for home use, but this is one area where it’s hard to beat old technology, and I’ve come across a number of relatively recent studies suggesting that manual – specifically aneroid sphygmomanometers – are more accurate than their digital counterparts. Another reason that these kits are popular and have maintained their use in the medical field could be for a variety of reasons, like, because medical training requires you to know how to use one in the interest of keeping aptitudes and therefore being able to correctly diagnose issues like arrhythmia, but also in emergency situations, where, for instance, the batteries on a digital manometer may be dead.

While you’ll only find acoustic stethoscopes in these kits, we do have a separate list for electronic stethoscopes, as well as for acoustic stethoscopes. Paramed is a real leader in the digital blood-pressure monitor market, and it isn’t a surprise to also see them represented in this category, with the likes of the Paramed Pro and Paramed Comfort; Lotfancy is another brand that’s made big inroads into the digital BP market. By contrast, you won’t find a huge range of reasonably priced, commercially available digital BP monitors from the American Diagnostic Corporation, but they do produce a limited selection of professional-level aneroid and mercury cuffs, as well as stethoscopes.

We believe that accuracy takes center stage in blood pressure cuff and stethoscope kits, even over durability. For this reason we only included models that offer reliable and consistent readings time after time.
