All you know is that it sounds dangerous — so imagine your surprise when you realize that they're basically just fancy tops. Some of these sets come with arenas, and all include toys with unique abilities and performance boosts — but they do have small pieces, so keep them away from very young ones. Like other popular "collectible" toys, Beyblades are constantly coming out with new models, from different types of tops and launchers to new aesthetics based on the multiple Beyblade animated series. We removed some older sets and replaced them with newer ones. However, we left a few discontinued models on the list due to their unique features (the rocking action of the Samurai Cyclone, the distinctive tops of the Shogun Steel Octagon Showdown and the shape of the Super Vortex stadium). Since these are more out-of-date, however, we lowered their rankings in order to highlight newer offerings from the Burst line.
New to the list, the Volt Knockout has three circular indents in the floor of the stadium that increase speed and trap tops in a "vortex," encouraging collisions. The Slingshock Rail Rush does something similar, but instead of dips in the ground it uses curved rails at the edge of the stadium.
The Rise Hypersphere has a removable portion that allows tops to climb up to a higher level, which also means that they can zoom back down with extra speed and come at their opponents.
Contrasting these unique features, the Epic Rivals stadium is relatively simple. However, parents will appreciate that it has tall walls that prevent pieces from flying off.
Even with a deep stadium, however, these toys can reach high speeds, and many have metal pieces that are designed to "burst" upon impact. The company warns that no one should lean over the stadium while the tops are in motion and that the stadium should be kept on the ground, not a table or other elevated surface, as pieces can potentially bounce out. Make sure to heed any additional warnings that come with your set and pay attention to age ranges too, as many of these toys have small parts that can pose a choking hazard to younger kids.
