Editor's Notes

June 07, 2020:

Whether you’re looking for a sturdy high chair that makes feeding time both comfortable and convenient, or a soothing bouncer or rocker, our list of baby chairs has you covered. In addition to the Abiie Beyond and the Peg-Perego Siesta, which are designed to grow with your child, today we added in another high chair model, the GracoSimple Switch. This model conveniently can be used as either a full-size high chair or a booster seat for toddlers. The removable legs can be stowed inside the footrest when not in use, to help ensure they don’t get lost elsewhere. The padding is conveniently machine washable, so it’s easy to keep clean. We also added in the well-designed Ciao! Baby Portable, which resembles the durable adult-sized chairs you often see on the sidelines at soccer games, as well as camping and picnics. This one, however, is made for a baby and comes with a built-in feeding tray. It features a five-point safety harness and folds up compactly and comes with a carrying bag. It won’t take up much storage space in your trunk, should you choose to keep it in there in between outings.

Like baby swings, a bouncer or a rocker can be both entertaining and soothing. There were a couple of popular choices on the list, but we also rounded things out by adding in the budget-friendly, yet reliable, Bright Starts Bouncer. This battery-operated choice produces soothing vibrations to keep your tot calm and happy, and it comes in your choice of either a flamingo theme or one featuring colorful jungle animals. The activity bar features colorful hanging toys and a mirror for entertainment. We kept the Babybjorn Bouncer Balance in a prominent spot on our list, since it automatically responds to your child’s kicking and other movements by rocking gently. It’s highly stable, thanks to a counterbalanced design, and provides ample support for an infant’s neck and back. It also collapses for compact transport, which makes it easy to take to grandma’s. It’s quite an investment, but you might consider it well worth the cost if it will be used by multiple children over the years.

No matter model which you go with, be sure to adhere to the manufacturer’s age and weight requirements. Only use a bouncer or a rocker on the floor, and never carry one with the baby in it, to eliminate the chance of injuries from falls. Note that bouncers and rockers are not designed to be used to put your child to sleep, and the American Academy of Pediatrics advises to put babies to sleep on their backs, on a completely flat surface, to reduce the risk of sudden infant death syndrome.
