Snowboard size chart by weight

Jones Snowboards builds its chart on weight, which it calls the single most important sizing factor, from data on over 5,000 riders. If your weight falls in two rows, Jones says to pick the middle size.

Snowboard size chart by height

evo's chart starts from height and pairs each height with a typical weight. Its ranges are wider than Jones'. evo suggests the shorter end of your range if you're a beginner or ride mostly park, the longer end for all-mountain, powder and freeride, and a longer board if you're heavier than average. evo also says length is as much personal preference as anything.

Adjusting for riding style and ability

Jones frames the riding-style changes for advanced and expert riders, who fine-tune their size for where they ride:

  • All-mountain: ride the size for your weight; it's the most versatile.
  • Freeride and powder: Jones suggests 2 to 3 cm longer for stability at speed, float and grip. Volume-shifted powder shapes ride much shorter.
  • Freestyle and park: 2 to 3 cm shorter for easier spins and a playful feel, or 2 to 3 cm longer for landing big jumps.
  • Beginners often prefer a board 1 to 2 cm shorter, or a softer one. Experts often go slightly longer or stiffer.

Do you need a wide snowboard?

Your boots should hang over the edges only slightly. Too narrow a board makes your toes and heels drag in turns. Jones says riders under a men's US 10 (women's 11.5) can ride any regular-width board. Burton says boots under a men's 9 (women's 10) likely don't need a wide board, men's 11 to 12 may want one, and anything over a men's 12 almost certainly does.

Kids' snowboard size chart

Size kids by weight. Jones says not to size up too much: a board that's too big makes first turns harder. Jones' adult chart starts at 75-100 lb, so bigger kids can use it. Jones' last kids' row (88-114 lb) is misprinted on its page, so it's left out here.

Snowboard sizing FAQ

What size snowboard do I need?
Start with your weight. Jones Snowboards calls weight the single most important factor and builds its chart on it, while evo's chart starts from height and weight together. Then adjust for how you ride: Jones suggests 2 to 3 cm longer for freeride or powder, 2 to 3 cm shorter for a playful park board, and 1 to 2 cm shorter for beginners.
Does height matter for snowboard size?
Less than weight. Jones says height plays a small role. The old rule was a board that reaches your chin when you stand it next to you; evo says that may be a good place to start, but ability, weight and the board's construction matter too.
Do I need a wide snowboard?
It depends on your boot size. Jones says riders under a men's US 10 (women's 11.5) can ride any regular-width board. Burton says men's 11 to 12 may want a wide board and anything over a men's 12 almost certainly needs one. Too narrow a board makes your toes and heels drag in turns.
What if my weight fits two sizes?
Jones says to pick the middle size. Go a little shorter for a playful, easy-turning board, or a little longer for more stability, control and float.
