Everybody should get a magnetic knife rack, and I can think of at least five reasons why. Obviously, they save space, but they're also considerably more sanitary, because you never know what kind of germs are hiding in a huge wooden block. Thirdly, they're especially better for quality chef's knives, because any residual moisture will damage a finish, even if the blade's made of so-called stainless steel. Furthermore -- and I can't stress this enough -- if you have nice knives, they deserve to be shown off. Even more, having your tools hanging in plain sight on the wall doesn't just look great, it makes it quite a bit easier to grab the right one at a moment's notice. Most of these reasons still hold true if you're using one of these devices to store your handyman tools or antique sword collection.
For pure functionality, check out the RSVP, AvoLiving, and especially the Norpro. They don't look like much, but they perform quite well and cost very little. The HSTMC is also pretty inexpensive, though it isn't very big. In the middle of the pack are the Ouddy, Vallec, and Kuaile, which look good enough to complement most kitchens and serve their purpose admirably. If you really want to take things up a notch, though, there are some neat ways to do so. The Unique Effects looks fantastic and is as strong as they come thanks to its dual-rail design, and the movable hooks add an additional layer of convenience, though it's one of the few that you can't mount using tape.
