The 10 Best Kayak Spray Skirts
This wiki has been updated 23 times since it was first published in August of 2019. Just because you like going out on the water doesn't mean you want to get soaked. These spray skirts can help you stay dry and comfortable when you're kayaking, as they fit over your body and the cockpit to prevent rain, splashes, and drips from ruining your day. It's important to note that, while they can keep you warm, they're not a substitute for a wetsuit in the event you capsize. Editor's Notes
August 05, 2019:
The right spray skirt is going to depend in large part on what kind of kayaking you intend to do. It's unlikely you'll find one that's equally suitable for both shooting rapids and paddling on a tranquil lake, so you'll likely either have to make a few choices or buy a few different options.
You'll notice that we included both the Seals Tropical and Coastal Tour models; while these may look a lot alike, they have several key differences. The most notable of these is breathability — the Tropical lets air move freely through it, preventing you from overheating. This is fantastic as long as you're not out in cold conditions, in which case the Coastal is a better option.
Speaking of staying warm, don't rely solely on your spray skirt to ward off hypothermia. If you're paddling in frigid conditions, a good wetsuit is a must, as a skirt will provide minimal protection against the cold in the event you roll.
